When the inner thighs rub together, it can cause sores and irritation which are straight out painful and uncomfortable.
Anyone can have chafed skin but some people are more prone to developing sores and irritation. If you are overweight or an athlete, you may notice that your skin gets irritated often. Here are ways chafing can be prevented.
Lubricate your skin
Lubricating your skin can help prevent chafing by allowing your skin glide easily while walking or running. This can be done by applying petroleum jelly to the affected area before engaging in any activity that may cause chafing.
Reduce Friction
Another way you can prevent chafing is by wearing cycling tights whenever you want to wear a dress or skirt. The tights will help reduce friction which happens when the skin constantly rubs together.
Keep Dry
Wet skin can make chafing worse. So, try to keep your inner thighs nice and dry. Before you head out the door, apply talcum powder to areas that get the most sweaty. Powder absorbs moisture and can help keep sweaty spots dry. Wear breathable pajamas and undies.
Clothing
Select snug fitting clothes that allow movement while exercising. Avoid cotton material because it traps moisture easily and rubs against the skin. Instead opt for Synthetic fibers like Lycra, polyester and spandex. They reduce friction and dry quickly which reduces the chances of chafing.
Lose weight
If you are overweight, try to lose the excess weight. Losing weight will help prevent excess skin from rubbing together.
Antiperspirant
Moisture is one of the causes of chafing, so it makes sense that antiperspirant used to reduce sweating in the underarm and keep dry can also be used to reduce sweat between the thighs. Apply a solid antiperspirant on the area that rubs together and reapply as often as needed.
Antibiotic Ointment
If the skin is already irritated and affected by chafing, the next thing to do is to treat the affected area. The affected area will be exposed to bacteria and germs. To avoid further infection, apply antibacterial ointment to prevent infection and speed up healing.
