Fat is essential to your health because it supports a number of your body’s function. It acts as a backup energy source to the body when carbohydrate is not available This means that your body requires it to work properly. Some vitamins, for instance, needs fat to be absorbed and stored by the body. For a healthy diet, it’s important to replace bad fat (trans and saturated fats) with good fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) . It is healthier and the best replacement for fats and oil filled with saturated fat . Olive oil can be used as salad dressing, for cooking and baking, It is packed with calories and should be used in moderation. A tablespoon is about 100 calories.
Fish
Fish is a rich source of omega 3 fatty acid and is filled with heart healthy fat.Omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to lower triglyceride, which is a type of fat found in the bloodstream. Omega-3 fatty acids may also slow down the growth of plaques in the arteries.
Peanut Butter
This is filled with unsaturated fatty acid which helps lower cholesterol levels. It’s also one of the best plant-based source of omega 3 fatty acids. Nuts are rich in fibre which helps in lowering cholesterol. It’s also rich in potassium, antioxidant and protein. Peanut butter is high in calorie and should be taken in moderation . When buying peanut butter be sure to go for organic ones with no added sugar.
