When hair is damaged, it appears unhealthy and lifeless. Some of the signs of damaged hair are frizzy ,split ends, dry and brittle appearance. These damages arise as a result of sun exposure, excessive use of hair styling tools, chlorine in swimming pool and chemical laden hair products that dry out the hair. When you include the following treatment for dry coarse hair to your daily hair routine you will notice your hair will become more hydrated and glossy. Following these steps will prevent your hair from drying up and repair damaged hair.
Treatment for Dry Coarse Hair
Feed your cuticle
Good nutrition can help improve the health of your hair. Eating a healthy diet and drinking enough water provides the vitamins and minerals your hair needs. Eat four servings of fruit a day and five servings of vegetables. Include healthy oils, such as almond nuts and olive oil in your diet. Drink up to eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
Hot Oil Massage
Hot oil massage is a great way to lubricate your dry hair and reverse damages done. It is a good idea to make a weekly regimen of massaging your hair with hot oil. You may need to do this twice or three times a week depending on how dry or coarse your hair is.
- Heat coconut oil till its warm. You just need warm oil and not hot oil.
- Apply oil to your scalp using your fingers.
- Now gently massage with your fingertips working the warm oil deep into the ends. Gently massage hair to prevent breakage.
- Wrap plastic and a warm towel around your hair and leave it for 20 minutes.
- Shampoo and condition as usual and rinse thoroughly.
Moisturize
Moisturizing parched, bristly hair can help repair damages to hair and keep it well hydrated. Opt for products laden with nourishing proteins that strengthens and moisturize hair. Buy moisturizer that contain oil that seals in water (moisture).  So if you twist your hair while it’s damp water will moisturize the hair while the oil will seal in the moisture making it hydrated for a longer time. Always apply a good sealant, that will keep your hair moisturized and soft for a long time. Skip piping-hot showers, which will only expand the hair shaft, allowing moisture to escape, and don’t wash when you don’t need to so that your natural scalp oil will help keep your hair moisturized.
Shampoo less often. Hair becomes dry when the natural oils produced by your scalp aren’t getting the chance to nourish it. Shampooing dry hair every day will make it ever drier and more brittle since you’re stripping away your natural oil on a daily basis. Cut back to shampooing just once a week, to give your hair the chance to receive those nourishing oils.
Cut back on heat
Allow your hair to air dry. Putting heat on your hair can be quite damaging over time. It can lead to split ends and breakage. When you just have to style your hair with a dryer , use the warm or cool setting on your dryer, and keep it several inches from your head. Avoid using styling tools that require heat.
Always condition your hair
Conditioning dry hair will help bring back moisture to hair. Always condition your after shampooing. Avoid conditioners with silicone and sulfate instead look for one made with natural oils. If your hair is too dry, using a leave-in conditioner will help keep it from drying out during the day. To get the hair texture you crave, you might consider deep conditioning your hair weekly
Mayonnaise makes a great deep conditioner for very dry hair, Â To make a mayonnaise hair mask
- Add 1 cup of mayonnaise to a small bowl.
- Add two tablespoon of avocado or coconut oil.
- Wet your hair with warm water and then gently apply a thick layer of the mayonnaise mixture to your scalp and hair.
- Massage the mayonnaise into your scalp and then work it through your hair to the ends. Cover with a plastic bag and leave the mayonnaise on for 30 minutes before shampooing and rinsing.
- Repeat weekly to hydrate very dry hair.
Massage your scalp
Massage your scalp regularly to stimulate circulation near the roots of your hair. This can promote hair growth. Get into the habit of giving yourself a scalp massage every time you wash your hair. Using the tips of your fingers, rub your scalp in a circular motion, covering every inch of your head. Massage the scalp for at least three minutes or longer if preferred. Try an oil massage for an extra boost. Massage coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil or jojoba oil into your scalp, you can leave it on or wash it out when you’re finished. For maximum benefit, massage your scalp once or twice daily.
